Notes to Teachers and Parents:

This activity is for children 8 years of age and up.

Children can make up their own "secret code" to describe their design verbally for other students to copy. This will develop communication skills of mathematical ideas. Students describe each tile with respect to shape, color, and orientation and where each tile should be placed by giving it column number and row letter coordinates. Other students develop their listening and interpretation skills through this activity. Representing an idea verbally, geometrically, and symbolically develops problem solving skills.
